The Ranchi Rhinos registered a come from behind win against the Punjab Warriors in the Hockey India League today. Justin Reid Ross scored twice for the Rhinos. The Rhinos will likely end second in the final standing in the league, and have already qualified for the semi finals. The Warriors have also qualified for the semi finals with their 28 points since it is mathematically impossible for Mumbai to overtake them.
Australia’s Kieren Govers gave the Warriors the lead through a field goal in the 38th minute, and his countryman Christopher Ciriello made the scoreline 2-0 by converting a penalty corner in the 50th minute.
Trailing 0-2, the Rhinos threw everyone into attack, and Reid Ross pulled one back for the Ranchi side in the 52nd minute from a penalty corner. India’s Mandeep Singh made the scoreline 2-2 with a field goal for the Rhinos.
Reid Ross then converted his second penalty corner of the match just a minute from the final hooter to give Ranchi the win, much to the disappointment of the home crowd.
The Warriors will now face Delhi Waveriders in their final league game tomorrow, while the Rhinos will play the Magicians in their final game at Mumbai on Thursday.
